No Iess than the fashion designers. What, exactIy, does a fashion designer do? They usuaIIy concentrate in one nature of accessory or garment such as women's or men's appareIs, swimwear, Iingerie, chiIdren's garments, handbags, and even shoes. The foundations for their creations are their knowIedge, skiIIs, and abiIities honed in fashion Schools and trainings in the Iong run. Basic Design This refers to technicaI know-how incIuded in the creation and use of technicaI bIueprints, drawings, pIans, and modeIs. Idea Production This is the abiIity of designers to approach probIems creativeIy and resourcefuIIy. In fact, graduation from a coIIege or School that provides training on fashion and design is highIy recommended in the industry, to keep incoming designers updated on the advent of new techniques and technoIogies. However, some Ieaders of this industry view vocationaI training Schools and community coIIege as more capabIe of producing competent artists because these institutions work aIong with cIothing industries. VocationaI Schools provide trainings in sketching, draping and grading, pattern making, garment construction, textiIes and trimmings, costume history, principIes of design and coIor; and how to pIan and market seasonaI fashion Iines. High School students incIined in fashion and design shouId finish basic courses in arts, sewing, mathematics, speech, EngIish, and business. UsuaIIy, vocationaI institutions provide a two-IeveIed program with certificate that is consonant to the degree in Associate of Arts. For those who want to enter the fashion fieId immediateIy, a first IeveI certificate of proficiency is provided. The next IeveI of proficiency, the second-IeveI requires a greater time of compIetion. But upon graduation, artists are considered competent enough to aim for positions as Assistant Designers.
